Palworld took the gaming world by storm when it first released earlier this year, reaching over 19 million players and becoming the biggest third-party launch on Game Pass when it released. However, many were wondering when the pervuble shoe would drop considering how close it takes it’s inspiration from Pokemon. Eventually, the shoe did drop when Nintendo and the Pokemon Company officially filed a lawsuit against developer Pocketpair. At the time, details about the lawsuit were spare, until now. Pocketpair has revealed more information regarding the lawsuit.

“As announced on September 19, 2024, The Pokemon Compant and Nintendo Co., Ltd. have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against us,” Pocketpair said in a press release. “We have received inquiries from various media outlets regarding the status of the lawsuit, and we would like to report the details and current status of this case as follows:

The Plaintiffs claim that “Palworld,” released by us on January 19, 2024, infringes upon the following three patents held by the Plaintiffs, and are seeking an injunction against the game and compensation for a portion of the damages incurred between the date of registration of the patents and the date of filing of this lawsuit.”

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are seeking 5 million yen a piece for compensation. “We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings,” Pocketpair added.
