Earlier on Saturday, PlayStation’s cloud based handheld controller, Project Q was leaked on Twitter.
Twitter user, Zuby_Tech tweeted out images of the Project Q and video of the device being used, although the person behind the camera operating the device is just navigating through the menus. According to VGC, The inital leaked photos were posted to imgur, than circulated all over social media. The photos included the internals, mainly whats below the screen, which is mainly plastic with some components. The screen part of the handheld is not included in the tear-down photo. The controllers are just the sides of the Dual Sense controller.
In the video leak, it shows the Project Q handheld in use, navigating the home screen and some of the menus. Although very blurry and shakey, with an air-bubble ridden plastic wrap screen protector, you can just make out the Android icon for the settings app of the device, basically revealing that the device is running a fork or version of Android OS. Also included are a video app, a PlayStation app, a photos app and a QR code. Further confirming the Android software, is the menu buttons on the 8 inch screen itself. VGC notes in their article on the Android aspects of the device saying, “This could mean that Project Q could theoretically be modded to run other game streaming apps such as GeForce Now or Amazon Luna.”
The reception so far to these leaks has been, interesting to say the least. With some users commenting on the looks of the device, calling it a dualsense controller cut in half to fit a small tablet. Some comments and speculated the price point of the device, which is said to be under $300 MSRP according to the court documents provided in the FTC v Microsoft ABK trial. So far, Sony has given little details about this cloud-based device, besides the details that we already know, like the 8-inch, 1080p screen.
