During the Playstation Event earlier this year Sony announced that they had a new premium level of wireless headsets coming out as an alternative to their Gold model. Sadly however, it was announced earlier today that the new headset will not be out until early 2017.
Prior to today the only timeline Sony gave about the release was that it would arrive around the holidays, suggesting that the headset would be available for Christmas. As an alternative, players could still get their hands on the flagship Gold model. The price difference between the two is $60, however amazon sells the Gold headset for $73 with its normal price being $100.
The Platinum Wireless Headset redefines premium gaming audio by creating an incredibly rich and detailed soundstage for your virtual world, faithfully delivering everything from the whisper of ghosts to the thunder of guns in stunning 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound powered by revolutionary 3D Audio technology. Its advanced, built-in dual mics capture your voice and cancel out distractions, while a comfortable design and extended-life battery keep you playing longer. This is how games were made to sound.
Most importantly the new headset offers multiple device capabilities. The headset can connect to a PS4 and computer through bluetooth or a mobile device with the included 3.5mm headphone jack.
What sets this apart from the Gold headset is the design. Since the Golds release it has always lacked a certain flashiness to it. The Platinum adds hints of metal and a sleeker design, while also added better padding to help with comfort when wearing them for an extended time. To justify the price increase from the Gold model the Platinum also has 50mm drivers which add “clarity and range of sound to your virtual world, from soaring highs and mids to a rich bass”.
People will also have the ability to download a companion app from the Playstation Store and tune the headset to their liking by using the developer created audio modes to “bring out every subtle nuance in their game”.
The headsets are currently set to be released in January.
