PlayStation State of Play: Rhapsody in Scarlet First Trailer Revealed

Konami Digital Entertainment unveiled their first ever trailer for their upcoming title Rhapsody in Scarlet during today’s PlayStation State of Play. The trailer is a story trailer, revealing that it takes place in “New York City in the 1920s,” which is described as a “dazzling metropolis filled with the sound of jazz and the glow of soaring skyscrapers.” Despite the city being a creative hub that “reveled in its glamour, an unseen conflict simmered among those who practiced magick in secret.”

Playing as Ellie, a young magus who arrives in “New York to pursue a career as a jazz singer,” players end up caught up in an “unexpected incident,” resulting in her meeting “Ilya, [who is] the leader of an “elite organization of magi” called the Seekers. “Though the free spirited Ellie and the serious minded Ilya frequently clash, they gradually forge a strong bond as they investigate the schemes of the mysterious mafia.” Investigating these schemes does come at a cost, however. The pair finds themselves entangled in New York City’s secrets, soon getting deeper than they are able to handle. Eventually, they end up “revealing a fateful battle that threatens the very balance of the world.”

The trailer teases the bustling city universe in Rhapsody in Scarlet as it is fueled by an original jazz soundtrack by the popular Japanese Jazz sixtet Soil and Pimp Sessions, supplemented at times with Emi Meyer on vocals. The development and publication team have yet to confirm a release date or release window, as of today. Despite the trailer being released for a PlayStation event, Rhapsody in Scarlet is not intended to be an exclusive release. Currently, the game is set to be available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox, or PC via Steam. Interested players can view the State of Play trailer below.
