Today Sony revealed the newest update to their latest handheld console, the PlayStation Portal. In it, multiple features are included, the most notable of which is the ability to stream games from the PS5 directly onto the PlayStation Portal. This feature will be available for PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to stream games from both the PS5 and their mobile console at the same time or stream games while away from the primary system. Another inclusion of the update is the support for 3D audio, a feature that many of the most immersive games on the console come with.

Alongside the release of the update, the PlayStation YouTube channel also released a video to announce the changes. In it, they detail that players will be able to access their PlayStation library through the cloud, along with the games provided by both PlayStation Plus and the classics catalog. The availability of the games will be variable based on region and the game, with each available title including a unique icon on the PlayStation Store to designate it as able to be streamed. In addition, the console itself also received multiple upgrades to help with the gaming experience. In addition to the 3D audio support, the handheld now also includes haptic feedback and adaptive triggers available when supported by the current game.

On the PlayStation website, a full list of the games available for streaming can be found. Over 2500 games are available currently, with the promise of more coming in the future. Some of the showcased games include Astro Bot, Ghost of Yotei, and God of War Ragnarok. 

The handheld consoles produced by PlayStation have always led to mixed opinions from players, resulting in mixed support coming for the feature from Sony. The update to the PlayStation Portal indicates a willingness to continue to improve the system, which many fans see as a step in the right direction.
