Back in January during the Consumer Electronics Show 2014, Sony announced their cloud-based streaming game service called PlayStation Now. Since the announcement number of PlayStation fans have been able to play on the Private Beta program for PlayStation Now on PS3. Announced today on the PlayStation Blog, the service that will publicly be launching this summer, will be coming to private beta for PS4 fans starting tomorrow, May 20.
PlayStation users that have registered for the PlayStation Now private beta may be receiving their voucher code for the PS4 beta soon. The PlayStation blog also mentions that it plans to expand the used base for the PS3 private beta “in the near future.” According to Sony, there has been more than 50,000 hours spent with beta testing on the PlayStation Now on PS3.
Netflix, Spotify, Pandora, and other streaming services that offer us movies, TV, shows, and music, has now allowed users test on their PS3’s the ability to stream select PS3 games like The Last of Us. The first supported devices that will be launching this year are PS3, PS4, than to expand on select Bravia TVs, PlayStation Vita, with more devices to come later on.
With PlayStation Now, being that you won’t need to download or keep discs around to access a game, this service won’t be free of any costs. No price has been released yet on what the finalized pricing would be. There may be an ability for users to rent individual games as one time only or be given different levels of subscriptions to gain access to the complete game library.
