Playstation Meeting Reveals PS4 Slim, Pro

The Playstation Meeting happened yesterday, September 7 which started at 12 PM PT/ 3 PM PT. The event revealed the new PS4 Slim. It was limited to the members of the press, but it was live streamed for the world to see. Andrew House, the President and Group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment was the keynote speaker, who started the Playstation Meeting. He talked about the PS4 Slim, followed by Lead System Architect Mark Cerny, who talked about the hardware of the PS4 Slim. Then game play of several games were shown with the new PS Pro technology. The game play included Spiderman looking over his city and a hack-and-slash game seen on both a battlefield and a one-on-one battle between a samurai and a man wielding two hatchets.

One of the key things that House talked about was the community involved in the PS Pro. On a slide show he talks about how the PS Pro is about one community and one game which can be played in multiple ways.

We’re working hard to make sure the PS4 remains a single, unified community. The same discs and downloads will run on both the standard model and PS4 Pro, but they can be played in multiple ways. In support of the standard model, we’re asking our publishing and developing partners to determine how they can best support the PS4 Pro on 4K TVs and HD TVs.

The PS4 Slim is a smaller, more efficient system with 500 GB and will be the standard PS4 going forward. It will be available in most markets on September 15 for $299.

According to Sony, the volume of the PS4 Slim is 30% less that the PS4, weighs 16-25 percent less and uses 28-35 percent less energy.

Gamespot says the the reveal wasn’t as surprise at all:

Not only had the existence of a slim PS4 been rumored, but multiple people had actually gotten their hands on them, sharing photos, videos, and impressions online. This began in August when one person bought the redesigned system on the equivalent of Craigslist in the UK, with more people subsequently getting their hands on them as well.

The PS4 Slim was the second new PS4 confirmed. In June, a version was released that had a more powerful 4K -capable system, which has been called the PS Pro.
