The massive changes to X, formerly known as Twitter, made by Elon Musk has gradually driven users away from the platform. Now, it seems that PlayStation is taking its leave.
PlayStation users woke to a PlayStation Network notice on Monday, announcing PlayStation’s move to end its integration with X on its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. Starting November 23, PlayStation users will no longer be able to view, or publish content on X from their PlayStation consoles.
Screenshots of the news circulated on X before PlayStation confirmed it on PlayStation’s official support page.
It reads: “As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).”
Additionally, the message recommended PlayStation users alternatives for sharing images, either by the official PlayStation mobile app for iOS and Android or by directly using USB drives to transfer the data to PCs.
While an official statement hasn’t been given on why PlayStation is dropping its integration with X, many point to Microsoft’s similar move earlier this year. Previously, in April Microsoft had ended integration with X due to the recent API usage prices increasing. Twitter’s new pricing could cost companies like Microsoft more than $40,000 per month.
With Microsoft and PlayStation stepping away from X, the Nintendo Switch will be the last modern console that has integration with the social media platform.
