PlayStation 5 To Release Some Time During Holiday 2020

New information was released about the next generation of the  PlayStation, the PlayStation 5. The new information came from the PlayStation Blog and revealed that the PlayStation 5 will be releasing some time during the holiday 2020. The blog also unveiled that Sony Interactive Entertainment has plans to make the gaming experience more immersive for players by updating certain aspects of the controllers.

The President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan stated in the blog, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field.” This means that players will be able to feel different sensations while they play, allowing for a high quality of immersion. Another update for the controllers posted in the blog states that the L2/R2 trigger buttons have been programmed to be able to produce resistance. The reason for this as stated by Jim Ryan is that they want players to be able to, “feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.” These updates will change how gamers interact with the games on the PlayStation and could serve to further draw players into the worlds within their games.

According to an interview between Sony and Wired, the PS5 will have myriad of features such as a disk drive for physical copies of games and 4k Blu-rays. The PS5 will also include the ability to delete the single player portion of a game if the game has a multiplayer campaign. The controller will have an updated speaker, as well as USB-C connectivity and a larger capacity battery. The GPU hardware also has ray-tracing acceleration. The PS5 UI will allow players to see more details on what they can play as well as what their friends are doing. The interview also shed light on a project that Bluepoint Games is working on for the PS5. The PS5 will also use less energy than the PS4 which makes it a great console to help gamers go green and do their part for the planet. Unfortunately, the exact release date and price of the PS 5 is unknown, however, we do know that it will be available for purchase during holiday 2020.
