As the Trump tariffs continue to affect the video game industry along with the wars in Iran and Ukraine as well as the cost of RAM skyrocketing amid the global memory shortage sparked by AI demand, there is speculation that the PS6 could cost at least $1000 as it gets pushed back to launch in 2028 or 2029.
As these price changes continue, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella noted that gaming is trending towards becoming a hobby focused on high-earners.
“A bigger portion of the market is going to people who are more affluent, have higher incomes, and the lower-income parts of the market are really struggling,” said Piscatella. “That premium gaming space is leaning more and more on the affluent consumer.”
