Playstation 2 Emulation Coming Soon to Sony’s Playstation 4

With all the talk about Xbox One’s Backwards Compatibility library with Xbox 360 people were excited to use their old titles they spent a lot of time and money on. Now Playstation 4 owners have a reason to be excited as it looks like PS2 emulation which is another word for finally playing your Playstation 2 games on your Playstation 4.

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” says the wired.

Sony confirmed that they absolutely are working on compatibility to bring PS2 games to PS4 through fancy emulation software that will likely be a free update to your base system says Gamespot. This means that in some way shape or form you will be able to play classic Playstation 2 games on your PS4. However it is not clear if these will be available virtually, if companies may pull a rare replay and have re-releases of classic games, or if your PS2 titles will simply play on your PS4. Which means a lot of those old disks might just be worth holding onto and soon become more valuable.

Not only did they announce that you can finally play those classic games again but you will be playing them in some kind of pseudo HD. Apprently through fancy up-scaling they may run in ‘native hd’ says gamespot. Meaning your classic games won’t look anywhere near as pixelated anymore as they used to. However it is unlikely that they will look as good as your new games even though it sounds fancy.

This is an exciting revelation although a lot of PS2 games have been remade already like jack and daxter or Final Fantasy, there are some classics that haven’t seen the light of day for many generations.
