Battle royale games have had an interesting rise this year, with the massive growth of Fortnite leading an explosion of games coming to the genre. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, one of the first major games of the genre and one that is noteworthy for its influence, had fallen from the public’s eye earlier this year thanks to a combination of factors including the earlier mentioned popularity boom of Fortnite. This isn’t the end of the story however, as after hitting a low of below 900,000 simultaneous players on Steam during last month, there has been a subsequent player count increase to over a million players.
This rise in players can be credited to more than just one reason. Currently, the Steam Winter Sale is underway and that would understandably lead to an increase in players due to the decrease in price. There is another reason, however, as recently the snow map Vikendi was released and received positive reception from the player base. Among other updates and new features in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, there has been constant support from PUBG Corp. with new additions being regularly added to the game. As much as the general gaming community likes to say the PUBG is a dead game, that really isn’t the case in reality. It’s even one of the nominees for the Steam Awards game of the year.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is the biggest game on Steam and it has been massive since it was released last year. It has been incredibly successful in Asia, with significant amount of its player base coming from the continent. It isn’t much of a reach to say that with Steam becoming more available in the Chinese market soon, that PUBG will continue to grow its active player base. The only real way to see if PUBG will continue growing with new players is to watch and wait. Either way, expect more news on the matter here.
