The co-op vampire-themed shooter Redfall has finally completed its final act – refunding certain players $30 dollars. After Microsoft closed number of Bethesda studios in May, Arkane Austin was taken out in the carnage. The decision came right as the team was beginning to promote a major update they’d been working on. This final update eventually did go live to the public, marking the end of all development at Arkane Austin. This update allowed the game to be played offline, meaning players can still enjoy Redfall after the servers are shut down. One factor still remains to be solved though.
Upon the game’s release, there was a version available that included a promised Hero DLC for $30. Players were originally thinking the DLC might come out as part of a big Halloween update but it never came. Some began to take this as a sign of issues the studio was facing, or that they hadn’t started working on the DLC yet. Either way, nothing ended up coming of it, and upon notice of Microsoft’s decision, the studio issued a make-good offer on the subject. Now that is finally coming to fruition. All players who purchased digitally from Xbox, Microsoft, Epic Games, or Steam have received funds into their accounts.
Players who purchased a physical copy might have a harder time. They need to file a ticket with Bethesda and go to the store where they made the purchase. It sounds like a bit of a grind, especially considering any receipt will be roughly a year old. Hopefully, the tickets submitted with Bethesda can help physical copy players get their money back.
While the promised DLC might not be making an appearance, Redfall itself is still available to play, the last update having secured the game’s playability post shut down. With this, Redfall’s story comes to a close, for now.
