A new exploit has hit GTA Online on PC and last-gen consoles that is allowing hackers to steal millions of in-game dollars from other players, causing many fans to stay offline until the issue is fixed.
Players of GTA Online have been reporting over the past few days that cheaters in the game have found a way to steal huge amounts of money from other players, as well as a way to suddenly bestow a ton of RP on a player, illegitimately leveling that player up very quickly.
This exploit goes beyond the scope of previous cheats within the game, which were usually limited to spawning various rare items or vehicles or cash in game, due to a 3rd-party software called “mod menus”. YouTube user Jack K shows a brief demonstration of the hack in action in the video below:
In an interview with Kotaku, mod developer Tustin shares that this particular exploit is extra scary because of how easily it can be applied to mod menus with minimal effort, allowing for the potential to spread across platforms. Those affected by the exploit lose millions of in-game dollars instantaneously, and with the added ability to instantly level up players through the exploit, some are worried that innocent players targeted by the hack could be detected for their sudden rank increase and banned by Rockstar.
The folks at Rockstar have stated that they are aware of the hack and have set up a support page for the issue, which currently states merely that they are actively working on a fix. Updates will be posted on that support page as they are made available; until then, your best bet may be to join some of your fellow players and wait out this game-breaking exploit until it’s fixed.
