PlatinumGames seems incredibly busy as of late, with Bayonetta 3 and the recently announced Astral Chain both being developed by them at the moment. It seems like even with all that on their plate, Executive Director Atsushi Inaba is still interested in bringing The Wonderful 101 to the Nintendo Switch according to Weekly Famitsu, stating that porting the title is his goal for the year. While that certainly isn’t a formal announcement of it actually happening, it’s interesting to see that he has an active interest in having the game potentially brought to the Nintendo Switch. Bringing such a unique game idea to a wider audience may prove to be a great move.
For those who are unfamiliar with The Wonderful 101, it was an action-adventure Wii U exclusive released in 2013. The gameplay had the unique gimmick of having players control a horde of superheroes at once, transforming the group into various shapes and objects to advance within the game. It was released on the Wii U however, and that can give you a good idea of how well it sold, regardless of critical praise. The fact that the game could potentially be brought from one of the lowest selling Nintendo consoles to one of the highest selling Nintendo consoles means The Wonderful 101 could soon have a chance to reach a larger audience than it ever did before.
While the comment made by Atsushi Inaba isn’t a formal announcement, we did receive some formal announcements during today’s Nintendo Direct, most notably the reveal of Astral Chain. There was also a mention for those who have been eagerly anticipating Bayonetta 3. Hopefully that means that there will be more news for the latest installment in the Bayonetta series coming soon.
