The popularity of Frontier Development’s zoo-based simulation games has kept the development team producing improved titles for years. The games often provide both a means of expressing one’s creativity along with educating curious players on animals, their habits, and how zoos accommodate those animals. Today, a sequel to the highly praised Planet Zoo was announced, receiving both a trailer and a new page on the game’s official website.
From the information revealed so far, Planet Zoo 2 will feature improvements and additions to most of the content featured in the original game. The elements put front and center are the new aquatic and flying animals that players will be able to keep in their zoos. These naturally come with both aquariums and aviaries that can be placed within the zoo. The game will also feature wildlife reserves, far more expansive options than traditional zoos that players can customize the environments of to help animal populations thrive. The game also features an expansion of the zoo themes from the original game, including four new additions while making improvements on the original five.
Perhaps the most important part of any zoo simulation game, the animals have also been given behaviors that more accurately reflect how they would act in real life. The designs of the animals have also undergone improvements, such as adding more realistic fur or even breathing sounds specific to each species. These animals will be more content the more suited to their needs the zoo habitats are, which will attract more people to visit the zoo in turn. Zookeepers will also be able to manage their staff, keeping them happy and ensuring that they can provide the care the animals need.
Planet Zoo 2 has big shoes to fill, with many fans already excited about the ideas promised in the new game. Players will have the chance to set up their improved zoo when the game comes to console and PC on October 13th, 2026.
