Obsidian Entertainment and Versus Evil have released a trailer for their upcoming Pillars of Eternity sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. In this trailer, Obsidian teased the game’s companions, ship, and a few of the foes players will face during their playthrough.
Originally supposed to release earlier, Obsidian recently announced Deadfire‘s new release date as May 8; in the meantime, this trailer seems to be a piece of the “plenty of Deadfire-related news and content coming in the weeks and months” that they promised to tide fans over in the meantime. The trailer’s showcases a fully open-world setting (as opposed to the original game’s separated areas) that features a “deeper adventure,” with players hunting down a newly-risen god.
The trailer also gives players a good look at Deadfire‘s graphics and combat, with special focus on the player-character’s in-game base, a ship. “Your trusty ship, the Defiant, is your main means of getting around the Deadfire’s open-world. It’s also your home base, and that of your companions, and your crew,” Obsidian wrote on its Deadfire site. “You’ll be able to upgrade it, hire new crew members, and even take it into combat using a dedicated ship-to-ship combat system developed especially for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.”
In addition to the ship, we get a glimpse of the game’s companions, complete with a new relationship system “where companions will not only engage with you, but each other, depending on the decisions you make and events they experience in the world.”
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire releases in May for the PC, and later down the road for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
