Having only been on Fig for a day, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire reached its $1,100,000 goal in less than 24 hours. Crowdfunding has been a great way for companies to be able to produce the types of games that would otherwise not have the means to be created.
With the crowdfunding currently having 11,012 backers and nearly $1,250,000, the game has already surpassed its original goal by $150,000 and is still climbing. This could probably be attributed to the fact that backers will still be able to join in on the rewards after making a pledge.
We. Are. Funded! Thanks to the support of all of our backers, investors, and our wonderful community, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire has achieved and then exceeded its funding goal in less than 24 hours, exceeding all of our expectations. Our fans are the best in the world, and it’s thanks to you that we’re able to make games we love. Thank you so much, sincerely. In this update, we’re going to answer some of your most asked questions, give you some key details about the game, and share our progress so far.
The original installment of Pillars of Eternity was also created through crowdfunding, done on Kickstarter, where it eventually went on to raise over $4.1 million. While not at that number yet, there will still be another twenty eight days for you to get your hands on some pretty good rewards if you choose to become a backer.
Having reached its original goal, Obsidian Entertainment decided to create a stretch goal for $1.4 million. If this goal is reached then they will implement sub-classes into the game.
As on now, the game does not have a set release date, the only information given is that the game will arrive at some point in the first quarter of 2018. If you want to get in on the action you can start out with a five dollar donation, although you won’t get any rewards. To get a copy of the game you’ll have to pledge $29, giving you a digital download of the game, special in game item, and forum badge.
With every crowdfunding campaign you ultimately have a plethora of choices for how much you wish to pledge according to which rewards you desire to receive. For those wanting to donate $5,000, you’ll be able to sit down with the development team and create your very own island in the game. If you think that sounds ridiculous to pay that much like me then prepare yourself because, as of right now, one person has already made that pledge.
