The upcoming strategy game, Phoenix Point, has recently released a new trailer showing off different aspects of gameplay. Not only does it exemplify weak spot targeting and cover in combat, but it also gives a sneak peek at the species of aliens and the structure of the map. Developer Snapshot Games has now made the game available in an Early Access stage. Check out the new trailer below:
Phoenix Point begins in the year 2022 when scientists discover a strange virus that ends up transforming the landscape of the world. Mutagens permeate the land via the air only to have vast consequences. Fast forward to the year 2047, the human population is almost non-existent and must find safety where they can. However, even in this crisis the remaining humans fight amongst themselves and spread into factions.
But one worldwide organization stands tall in the new Phoenix Project. Players will control a single sect of the organization where they can assemble scientists, engineers, and soldiers. Once your sect, or cell, begins, players must figure out why contact has been lost with the other cells. The Phoenix Project’s ultimate goal is to investigate unknown occurrences and protect what remains of our kind from threats. This includes seeking out hostile alien bases and destroying them to wage a victorious campaign.
This spiritual successor to the X-COM franchise is rich in story for a strategy game and even in Early Access, the website contains a small library of lore including information on factions, newspaper articles describing current in game events, personal journals, and stories about important characters.
Phoenix Point is currently in Early Access and is set to officially launch in June 2019 for the Xbox One, PC and Mac. Snapshot Games have given players a look into what is to come with an interactive roadmap. Check out our discussion last year on Phoenix Point‘s crowdfunding success.
