Persona Franchise Has Now Sold More Than 15 Million Units Worldwide

The Persona series is continuing to be one of Atlus’s most successful IPs as the company shared their most recent financial statement showing a significant increase overall in terms of lifetime sales. As noted by Persona Central, the entire Persona franchise has now sold more than 15 million units worldwide and has seen a jump from the previous year with an increase of two million copies. The most notable addition to these statistics is Persona 4 Golden on PC, which launched in Spring 2020, and has now sold more than 1 million units through their primary digital retailer Steam.

2020 was a rather big year for the franchise in general. Earlier in the year before the PC iteration of Persona 4 Golden launched, Atlus released Persona 5 Royalan updated/extended edition of the 2017 Persona 5. The game was critically acclaimed, and Sega claimed that it went onto have “record sales in the west”.  Around the same time, the company released the hack-n-slash styled Persona 5 Strikers in Japan, whereas the rest of the world would have to wait until a full year later to get their hands on it.

Atlus has stated in this financial report that both titles have also garnered some impressive numbers, with Persona 5 Royal shipping roughly 1.8 million copies and Persona 5 Strikers selling around 1.3 million respectively. These numbers include both physical and digital sales, which also factors into Persona 4 Golden on PC. It’s also important to note that the PC version of the game managed to sell more than half million copies only a mere month after it launched, making the overall total that much more impressive.

With such an increase in sales, it’s possible that Atlus will look more into bringing some of their IPs to the PC gaming market. The fan base has already been calling for the company to bring Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 to the platform, and since Sega’s other major franchise Yakuza has been doing very well on it, they might just finally go ahead and fulfill their wish. Either way, this is an impressive financial showing for Atlus, and we can’t wait to see what they do from here.
