Sega, and by extension developer Atlus, have revealed that their Persona franchise has hit a new milestone. This statistic focuses particularly on the Persona 5 series, and all of the spin-off title that have come along since. Discovered in a Sega Topics post, and translated by Persona Central, the Persona 5 series has now sold more than nine million copies worldwide. This includes the original base title Persona 5, the upgraded edition Persona 5 Royal, the hack and slash title Persona 5 Scramble, and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight.
In addition, these numbers reflect both physical and digital sales, both worldwide as well. However, there’s an even crazier aspect to this entire statistic. The entire Persona franchise has sold roughly 17 million units globally. The Persona 5 part of that franchise has sold nine million of that. This means that the Persona 5 series has accounted for more than half of the total worldwide units sold of the entire Shin Megami Tensei Persona media franchise. That in an of itself is nothing short of insane and shows just how much of an impact the newest entries have made on not just the gaming community, but the video game industry as a whole.
This newest tidbit of information comes hot of Atlus announcing the latest part of the Persona 5 series, Persona 5 Tactica. The title is essentially another dungeon-crawling tactical JRPG, using mechanics similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. Let’s also not forget that mobile title, Persona 5: The Phantom X, which was revealed back in March. Atlus also revealed the long-awaited Persona 3 Reload, a complete remake of the beloved Persona 3, which is currently slated to launch sometime in early 2024.
