Persona 5 Scramble Revealed to be a Dynasty Warriors-Style Game

There’s even more Persona news today, with Atlus revealing more information about the mysterious upcoming title Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. There is no announced release date, but Persona 5 Scramble will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of the Persona 5: The Royal teaser trailer and details. Recent rumors about Persona 5 S included speculation that it would be a port of Persona 5 for the Nintendo Switch, and be similar to the Golden edition of Persona 4 for the PlayStation Vita. However, the game is new and will be a musou spinoff of the main title.

Persona 5 Scramble was announced on the second day of the Persona Super Live 2019 concert with a short trailer in Japanese. According to Persona Central, this is the first official action RPG title in the Persona series.

No English trailer has been made available yet, but fans on Twitter are helping provide context for English speakers.

Persona 5 Scramble is a joint effort between Atlus and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force team, famous for the Dynasty Warriors series. Fans of musou-style spinoff games like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors will be psyched to take Persona 5 protagonist Joker through wave after wave of enemies, surely with lots and lots of flashy special moves at his disposal.

The trailer appears to show Joker in the metaverse of Shibuya slicing and dicing through shadow enemies, and familiar faces Pyro Jack and Pixie can be seen. It looks like the elemental combat strategy system will be a part of Persona 5 Scramble as well, and Joker will be able to summon his persona Arsene for big damage. The music in the trailer is a new remix of the “Blooming Vilain” boss theme.

The end of the trailer also shows what is likely a new character, but there aren’t any details available on the game’s plot points yet.

Persona 5 Scramble is the latest Persona content on a Nintendo platform, joining Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinths, which is set to release for the 3DS this summer on June 4th. Also, Joker is the first DLC character for Switch title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. No word yet on whether Switch owners will eventually receive a Persona 5 port or Switch-optimized version for the platform.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
