While we have to wait until Spring of next year, Japan is gearing up to the end of the month for Persona 5 Royal’s release date, October 31. Clearly Atlus is doing everything they can to make this the biggest, and most ambitious title they’ve made yet, and this new piece of content that they’ve announced only cements this. The company released a video, hosted by Morgana no less, revealing that the game will receive DLC, which will consist of challenge fights with past Persona protagonists.
The actual battles will take place in the famous Velvet Room, where time and space mean next to nothing. According to the video, there will be two fights, each with the main protagonist of Persona 3 and 4, and their respective Persona’s, Thanatos and Izanagi. As we said earlier, these will be considered challenge battles, similar to the Velvet Room Wardens Caroline and Justine in the previous game.
With this in mind, it’s safe to assume that you’ll need to have some really powerful end game gear, as well being on top of your team’s composition to take down these powerful opponents. It’s also important to note that the protagonists will be based off of the console versions, as Persona 3 Portable for the PSP had a female main character as an alternative choice, and therefore won’t be available as an optional battle in the game.

The video revealed some more content for the game too, such as playing as the characters chibi forms from the spin off series Persona Q on the Nintendo 3DS. In addition, we also got a sneak peak at My Palace Mode, which is essentially a custom gallery you can explore using the other characters in the game along with playing some mini-games.
It’s more than likely that when the game releases in Western regions we’ll get these cool pieces of content, but we’ll just have to wait and see to be sure. Persona 5 Royal launches on October 31 in Japan for the PlayStation 4. It will release in the West sometime in the Spring of 2020.
