It’s the announcement that Persona fans have been waiting for since Atlus started the year-long celebration of the series. The studio has officially revealed that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will, at long last, be coming to modern systems next year on January 19, 2023. This includes the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, the Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s important to note that Persona 4 Golden is already on PC for Steam, but this will be the first time that Persona 3 will see any one of its iterations on the PC platform, which is something that fans have been aching over for several years.
Atlus initially revealed that the two aforementioned titles would be coming to the current console market back in June, including Persona 5 Royal. Royal in particular is the updated version of Persona 5, which was released in 2020 to critical acclaim, similarly to the original version which launched in 2017. It’s also important to note that Royal will be coming to the other systems much sooner, with a scheduled date of October 21, 2022. If anything, this should more than hold over the wait for the other two titles when they eventually release in January.
Persona 3 Portable is unique to the Persona franchise as it is the third version of Persona 3, released in 2010 for the handheld console PlayStation Portable. It received perhaps the most noticeable change, removing the open 3D world and instead making it more of a point-and-click style adventure where you select where you wanted to go in each area. The gameplay for the battles remained the same, utilizing the signature Persona turn-based JRPG that we’ve come to know and love.
Persona 4 Golden has already been reintroduced to the community when it was released for Steam on PC in 2020. However, the only other system it has been available for before this was PS Vita, Sony’s second attempt at the handheld market in 2012. The original Persona 4 was release for the PlayStation 2 back in 2008, further cementing the franchise as a stalwart of the JRPG staple. By January 2023, the entire video game market will be able to get their hands on the three popular Persona entries, and we can’t wait for that day.
