Last Summer, during the last Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft and developer The Coalition revealed the next chapter in the Gears of War franchise, Gears of War: E-Day. Now, developer People Can Fly has announced that they are returning to the series as co-development partner with the Coalition. “We are honored to return to the world of Gears of War, a franchise deeply embedded in our studio’s history. As lead developer of the iconic Gears of War Judgment and co-development partner on Gears of War 1-3, we have always been passionate about the series and its legacy,” People Can Fly said in the press release.
“Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love,” People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski said. “We are deeply grateful for our partners’ trust and support on this journey.”
The Coalition Studio Head Mike Crump said “Gears of War: E-Day is not just our next major game; it’s a return to what makes Gears of War games special and authentic. We’re pleased to be partnering with the talented folks at People Can Fly who have been part of our franchise’s legacy for so long.”
Gears of War Judgment follows young Lieutenant Damon Baird and his team Kilo Squad right after the immediate aftermath of Emergence Day and how he became part of Marcus, Dom, Cole, and Delta Squad. Similarly, Gears of War: E-Day goes back to the beginning as we experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas.
“Our team at People Can Fly, made up of dedicated Gears of War fans, is pouring everything we have into creating an experience that will exceed expectations,” People Can Fly Development Director Guillaume Barry said. “While we can’t share more just yet, we’re eager for the day when we can show all the exciting things we’ve been working on.”
