People Can Fly and Square Enix have entered into discussions around their untitled AAA game Project Gemini. Project Gemini was announced in 2020 as a joint project between People Can Fly and Square Enix, with a scale similar to their other joint project the Outriders.
The two companies have had previous discussions on the game’s scope. Back in 2022, it was revealed that People Can Fly signed away its publishing and IP rights to Square Enix. However, it seems that their current agreement isn’t doing much to help Project Gemini‘s development.
According to a new report People Can Fly’s Management Board deduced that Project Gemini might not continue under the current agreements terms after discussions on solutions between both companies broke down.
People Can Fly noted that Square Enix didn’t allow them to “determine the direction and scope of potential changes regarding the principles of cooperation between the parties.”
Luckily, nothing is set in stone as the Management Board is hard at work drafting possible future development plans that would accommodate both companies concerns. Those reports will eventually be released to the public, but considering how volatile both company’s past collaborations were, it’s too early to say whether Project Gemini will survive these discussions.
Hopefully, the project will make it to its current 2026 release date. In addition to Project Gemini, People Can Fly has six other titles in development including Projects Dagger, Maverick, Bifrost, and Victoria.
