Nintendo of America and Pennzoil are bringing you something that hasn’t been done at this year’s SXSW Interactive 2014 in Austin. They are teaming up to promote the launch of Mario Kart 8 that is coming out for Wii U but instead of on the gaming system, it will be a real-life racing track.
This not only will promote the new game but also the new Pennzoil Platinum oil, which is first to be from natural gas. The company is disassociating Nascar and appearances in auto magazines for this “Mario Karting Reimagined,” which will allow attendees of SXSW to experience racing in one of four life-size Mario Karts. Just like the game, the karts will be like what Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser drive. The goal will be to get the most powers to better your chances of protection and performance. The karts will also have camera’s attached during the races to be able to give to participants the footage of their races, but also be broadcasted on screens nearby.
“This is a great innovative product that I need the kids aged 18 to 24 to know about,” Chris Hayek, global brand manager at Shell, told Ad Age.
“Mario Karting Reimagined” will be at SXSW at Austin’s Palmer Convention Center starting on this Friday, March 7th.
