On June 16th of 2025, a game called PEAK released on Steam. Reaching over 10 million players within the first few months, the game brought whole new experience to the “friendslop” genre and took the world by storm. Since then, PEAK has received the occasional update that brought new biomes and content to the game. But earlier today, an announcement from Landfall Games on X declared that PEAK‘s final biome update will be arriving on August 11th, officially called The Final Ascent.
The announcement trailer was posted on X by Landfall Games, alongside the same video being uploaded on Youtube by IGN, and shows quite a lot on what players should expect when the update arrives in just a few days. Alongside some of the new content that was shown in the trailer, the voice over from Scoutmaster Myers implies that this final biome update will include plenty of lore to discover while exploring. From an outsider’s perspective, PEAK might seem like a simple game game designed to be a fun time between friends, but with this update, it seems that they’re bringing the lore that was hidden in the background into the spotlight.
As for the actual content shown in the trailer, the biome itself looks to be a purple, foggy swampland of some kind, unlike any of the previous biomes before it. That being said, the biome was also shown to have a massive tower, filled with dangerous traps for players to traverse. According to PEAK‘s Steam page, the two new biomes, called GLOOM and THE CITADEL, will cycle out with CALDERA and THE KILN. With that information, it’s confirmed that these new areas will be able available to explore and traverse at the latter half of every players’ run.
The Final Ascent is confirmed to be PEAK‘s final major update, so it’s very likely that the game will receive one final major spike in player count. Although it’s unfortunate to see such a loved game receive receive such an update with only a little over a year under its belt, PEAK certainly had the fifteen minutes of fame that it deserved. Maybe this update will give it a little more time in the spotlight.
