We’ve made it to the year 2023 and already we’re being teased something brand new. Starbreeze Studio and Overkill Software are starting the year off with a bang as the latter has released a very brief trailer on their YouTube Channel which teases, at long last, the return of the Payday franchise in 2023. The trailer, which pans backwards in a shot of New York city with fireworks going off, end with four shadowy figured starting out into the night. The trailer ends with the phrase “This is the year of Payday 3.”

If that wasn’t enough, the official Payday 3 Steam page has also been listed, along with a release time frame of 2023. This more or less makes it official that the game is indeed coming this year, and it’s more than likely that an official release date will be unveiled in the very near future. You can check it out here and wish list the game where it also says that they will provide “updates as we draw closer to launch.” The trailer we mentioned also reveals the title’s official logo, which as you can imagine, looks clean, simple, and to the point just like the previous entries in the series.
It’s been a while since we actually heard anything in regards to another entry of the Payday franchise. The last time the developer, Starbreeze Studios made any mention of the third iteration was back in October 2019 when they stated that they plan on releasing Payday 3 sometime in either 2022 or 2023. This was before the world wide COVID-19 Pandemic affected every aspect of human life and more than likely halted some of those plans. It’s also still nothing short of a miracle that the studio is even around as it went through a reconstruction period after some bad liquidation decisions and being in massive debt. That lead to the now infamous police raid on the office which resulted in one person being arrested by the Swedish Police.
Amazingly, Starbreeze was actually able to complete its reconstruction process in late 2019, which allowed them to continue working on the still popular Payday 2, and the follow up Payday 3. Now it appears they’re ready to unleash the latter upon the video game community, and we cannot wait to see what they’ve been working on.
