There was a Nintendo Direct Event held earlier this week, and it was jam-packed with a load of news to start off the new year. One of the most notable announcements made was that Nintendo officially confirmed Payday 2 for the Nintendo Switch, which will release on February 27. Payday 2 was initially released back in 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It has since been released on the PS4 and the Xbox One, and is now making its way to Nintendo’s hybrid console.
During the event, there was also a new character introduced to the game. Joy, the latest addition to Payday 2, is described as a high-tech computer ace who specializes in heists and sports a cool LED changing mask. When initially released, Joy will be a part-time exclusive character for the Switch version of the game, but she will be available for other platforms sometime in the future.
It was also confirmed that the Switch version of Payday 2 will include an online multiplayer mode. Players will be able to players to join their friends for local multiplayer sessions via Crime Net, which Nintendo states “will make you able to set up a local game and invite friends that share the same local network.” The game will run on the Nintendo Switch’s portable mode, as well as the docked mode to be played on home TV screens. It will also feature touchscreen support for the consoles, as well as a new interface.
