PAX will be hosting a new event, PAX Online will be running twenty-four/seven for nine days from September 12th through the 20th. PAX Online will be a combination of PAX West, PAX Australia, and EGX. As the name implies PAX Online is a completely digital event and lacks a physical location. Another large difference from the physical PAX events, PAX Online will be completely free to access.
PAX Online’s panels are not fully fleshed out but are expected to be streamed multiple times to reach audiences across multiple time zones. The event organizers were able to squeeze in more panels and event streams alongside concerts, competitions, and a few surprises. The organizers claim they were able to find a way to get all the normal events from their physical shows into a digital format.
While being vague on details, PAX Online will have an Esports stream. PAX Online will also be hosting several tournaments throughout the week-long event. PAX Online will be bringing out more details as the tournament system gets fully fleshed out in the coming days. Of course, PAX Online does have a way to purchase merchandise. All of the expected PAX Aus and West gear can be ordered online during the event and some PAX West supplies are available for pre-order with PAX AUS being released out later to get.
One key aspect of the physical shows is being able to meet and interact with new people. The organizers behind PAX Online are aware of this aspect and are trying to implement a way to cover this. One method is that PAX Online will be host multiple chat rooms for communities to gather and interact around various panels and hosts. PAX Online will also have tournament aggregation systems to help attendees to find groups of people to game with at all times.
