Pantropy, the premier game from German indie studio Brain Stone GmbH, is an upcoming MMO hybrid title with both FPS and RPG elements. The game has been in development for some time, with the developer providing occasional updates for followers through developer videos on the game’s YouTube channel. A new press release today shared new details on the game, as well as gave firm date for the game’s planned Kickstarter campaign, which is set to launch in 15 days on November 7th, 2017.
Pantropy takes place on a hostile alien world in a “post spacecraft” era around 2100 AD. In this space-travel-less universe, generators create wormholes that connect planets and make the colonization of foreign worlds possible. Players take control of colonists on these planets who must band together in factions to fight and compete with both enemy players and hostile environmental creatures for limited resources.
There are only 2 joinable factions in Pantropy, to encourage teamplay and focus on cooperation. Sebastian Kaulitzki of Brain Stone says of the decision:
We added this system to reduce frustration and to increase the cooperative gameplay experience for our players, we strongly felt a clear 2-Faction system was not present enough in other games out there on the marketplace today…players won’t find themselves in the typical deathmatch scenario. They’ll be able to choose a faction once they join a server. We built-in a feature which places a player among friends and other faction members the moment they are spawned onto a map, so potential enemies can be clearly identified. This limits the whole K.O.S. (Kill on sight) – factor.
The core gameplay of Pantropy will combine FPS run-and-gun combat with role-playing Sci Fi aspects; players will spend their time constructing planetary bases and structures, harvesting resources and crafting special tools, and designing and modding their own personal armored mech. The latest developer stream for the game showed off some of the new additions to the game’s crafting and combat systems, and the pre-alpha gameplay trailer below shows off some of the game’s impressive planetary scale.
The Pantropy Kickstarter launches on November 7th 2017 and aims to reach a goal of €75,000, with special reward tiers reaching up to pledges of €2,500 or more.
