Palworld might be getting more platforms to call home. Pocketpair CEO and director Takuro Mizobe spoke with Bloomberg on the success of Palworld and that future of the developer.
Since its January release, Palworld raked in billions of yen, eclipsing its one billion yen or $6.7 million USD budget. As of early March, Statistica reported that Palworld had sold around 25 million units globally. Mizobe remarked that the game’s success was too big for a studio of their size to handle. But instead of expanding, Mizobe wished for Pocketpair to remain on the smaller side. Currently, the Pocketpair studio consists of around 55 employees.
“We are and will remain a small studio,” said Mizobe. “I want to make multiple small games. Big-budget triple-A games are not for us.”
That said, Mizobe revealed that Pocketpair was considering partnerships or acquisitions, but has yet to start talks with interested companies like Microsoft.
However, what can be expected in the game’s future are additional platform releases. Mizobe revealed that Pocketpair is currently in talks to “bring Palworld to more platforms.” While it’s unknown which platforms the game will be on, Mizobe alleged a possible future PlayStation 5 and Nintendo console release.
While it would be interesting to see the Pokemon-inspired game release on a console like the Nintendo Switch, considering Nintendo’s negative response towards Palworld and its mods, it doesn’t seem likely.
In Palworld, players traverse an open world populated with cute and mystical creatures known as Pals. In this survival, action-adventure game players will can battle these Pals and use them to build bases, tools, and other uses to survive. Already Palworld is gearing for its first-ever raid boss since its release, called Bellanoir.
