It’s only a few weeks until the holidays and in anticipation of that, Blizzard has started its fourth annual Winter Wonderland for Overwatch. The event is now live and lasts over three weeks from December 10th to January 2nd. The Winter Wonderland event also includes several festive features including new cosmetics and skins, a new game mode, and challenges featured weekly.
The new game mode dubbed “Snowball Deathmatch” is a battle royale in which eight players duke it out all as Mei with a snowball gun. Mei also has the ability to catch enemy snowballs and add them to her ammo, and the first player to get 15 eliminations wins. The Overwatch Winter Wonderland event will also feature a total of seven new skins for players to collect, four of which are legendary and can be found in loot boxes, while three of them are Epic and can be earned in weekly challenges. The Epic skins include the Ugly Sweater Soldier, which can only be acquired on week 1, the Holly Moira skin, which can only be acquired on week 2, and the Snow Angel Mercy, which can only be acquired on week 3. The Legendary skins include Jotunn Doomfist, Mountain Man McCree, Rat King Reaper, and Rime Sigma, all of which can be acquired through loot boxes.
The event also comes with a patch that adds a new “While You Wait” feature that allows players to kill time performing various activities as they wait to find a match such as using a practice range, playing a deathmatch, or getting into a little tiff with another player. The new patch also fixes a few bugs and balances some of the heroes. As the event is now live, players can enjoy more than three weeks of fun and festivities right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
