Overwatch is a massively popular online multiplayer first-person shooter game that is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. One major system missing from that list is the Nintendo Switch…but, perhaps, not for long. Yesterday, Amazon listed an Overwatch themed carrying case for the Switch in its gaming section, made by accessory maker PowerA. The case was black and orange with the Overwatch logo front and center, and according to its description, it was “officially licensed by Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment.” The case quickly gained the attention on social media after a link to the product’s page and pictures of its design were posted on video game forum Resetera and Twitter.

Following all the attention, the listing was swiftly removed from Amazon without a word from Blizzard or Nintendo. Judging by this quick, silent reaction, fans have naturally begun to speculate whether this means an Overwatch port will finally be making its way to the Switch. This isn’t insanely out of the question for Blizzard, as the company was previously able to bring Diablo 3 Eternal Collection over to the Switch in 2018.
Back in 2017, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan even discussed the possibility of bringing Overwatch to the Switch in a Reddit AMA session. Though he was enthusiastic about Nintendo and its consoles, he said the process of getting Overwatch onto the Switch would be “very challenging” for Blizzard. However, he assured that the company is “always open minded about exploring possible platforms.”
At this point, any announcement of an Overwatch Switch port is most likely to come in November at BlizzCon 2019—an annual convention hosted by Blizzard to promote its various franchises, which include Warcraft and StarCraft in addition to the aforementioned Overwatch. Until then, the fate of an Overwatch Switch port may remain a mystery.
