Overwatch Showcases Anran Redesign After Initial Character Design Backlash

Overwatch has officially redesigned one of its newest heroes, Anran. In a post made on April 6, 2026, Blizzard revealed Anran’s new look to better fit her character. The reason for this redesign is that fans and the character’s voice actor called for it after her reveal in season one. Many said that her design didn’t fit her character. She’s supposed to be a confident older sister to Wuyang, another character on the roster, but many said she looked too young and inexperienced and didn’t match her comic counterpart, so they called for a redesign to better match her character. Overwatch didn’t take long to respond to the backlash, promptly saying they would try to make it right, and now we have our first look at the character redesign.

Now that the redesign is here, what exactly are the changes? Overwatch: Blizzard revealed they tweaked her eyebrows, mouth, and eyes to change her baby face and expression. The biggest change to the character is her posture. She now looks more confident and better matches the character she’s written to be. The reaction to this redesign is mostly positive. Some say she doesn’t match the comic one-to-one, but due to art style differences, she can’t be a perfect match. But the majority of fans, including the voice actor herself, Fareeha Anderson, are grateful for the redesign and happy that most of the complaints have been addressed.

On February 10, 2026, Overwatch launched a new season, Overwatch: Reign of Talon season 1, and with it, five new heroes joined the ever-expanding roster. With this showcase, Overwatch has shown fans that they are listening and appreciate feedback to improve the game. And are full steam ahead towards season 2, which releases on April 14, 2026, and fans can look forward to Anran’s redesign and the new hero joining the roster.
