The Overwatch team is at it again, this time with a gameplay trailer for the game’s newest hero: Doctrine. First revealed during BlizzCon’s Opening Ceremony earlier this month, Doctrine is a “cyberneticist turned supervillain who uses his scepter and fleet of bat-like drones to decree destiny.”
Although the new hero will not officially be added to the roster until October 6, 2026, some players were able to take advantage of a two day preview event. This event lasted from September twelfth, the same day Doctrine was announced, through the fourteenth. Fans were provided with a first look at both Doctrine and his Eternal Scepter, a tool that grants him the ability to “manipulate life itself, [in order] to heal allies and damage enemies.”
Yesterday’s Gameplay Trailer expanded on this preview, introducing the public to some of Doctrine’s primary abilities. Overwatch fans are quick to notice that he can “dodge incoming fire with his Shrouded Momentum ability.” He also has the power to increase his attack speed and healing rates by “send[ing] out Invigorating Drones to an ally.”
Doctrine’s Infuse takes things to the next level by adding extra power to whichever ability he uses next, like gaining free-flight when infusing his Shrouded Momentum or piercing damage when infusing his next Eternal Scepter attack. Finally, unleash his Ultimate, Deliverance, to grant allies overhealth while reducing the maximum health of your enemies.
Doctrine will be included in the drop for Overwatch’s newest season, A New Doctrine, which is scheduled to be released on October 6, 2026. In addition to Doctrine, this release will feature a brand new map that is located “inside a frozen, remote prison facility inGrímsvötn, Iceland.”
