Overkill’s The Walking Dead Introduces its Third Playable Character

Overkill’s The Walking Dead publisher, 505 Games, has unveiled a third character-based cinematic, giving fans a look at another of the upcoming co-op shooter’s four playable characters. This third apocalypse survivor, Grant, is a relatively elderly grandfather who is seemingly on a self-appointed mission to reconnect with his family.

A hardened, gritty grandfather, Grant appears to be the least fazed in a world of zombies out of the characters revealed so far. In the trailer, Grant goes so far as to shut himself into a car with its reanimated (though luckily jawless) previous owner to have a drink and a chat. Before the end of days, Grant had left Washington, D.C.—the game’s setting—to live out his life in the calm of the country. As an outdoorsman, Grant appears to have adjusted pretty well to the zombie apocalypse even if being surrounded by zombies doesn’t seem like the best of ideas.

Each playable character in the game has their own backstory, goals, story arc, and combat skills that allow them to fulfill a specific niche in the quartet. Although Grant’s skillset has not been revealed yet, he can be seen in the trailer with a sniper rifle, which suggests he’ll offer ranged support in combat. “The world may have changed, but the hunt feels the same to Grant as he stares down the barrel of his rifle,” Overkill wrote when it shared Grant’s new trailer.

Aidan and Maya, a bat-wielding bruiser and nurse-turned-battle medic respectively, have already been revealed as playable characters in the game. They are both a little more visibly affected by society’s change in climate than Grant as you can see in each of their respective reveal trailers. After Aidan, Maya, and Grant, only one more character remains to be announced.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is currently due to release in fall of 2018 for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
