Outlast Gets a Surprise Launch for the Nintendo Switch

Surprise! After no word on the subject since last December, survival horror game Outlast has appeared on the US Nintendo Switch store. Developer Red Barrel Games announced a Switch version of both Outlast and its sequel Outlast 2 back in 2017, but had not specified a release date for either of the games. A post on the Red Barrel Facebook page showed off a pre-release version of the Switch game being played, with a promise that the franchise would release in “the first quarter of 2018.”

The game is in the Nintendo store as a bundle, Outlast: Bundle of Terror, which includes the base game and its story DLC Whistleblower. Outlast‘s launch also came with a new trailer, which you can check out below.

Outlast 2 is expected to arrive on the Switch store sometime in the coming months, likely before summer. While there’s no word on a solid release date, the launch trailer for the first Outlast does say that pre-ordering for Outlast 2 is available. Outlast: Bundle of Terror is available on the digital Switch store.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
