The time-looping adventure game, Outer Wilds, is getting an expansion called Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye that will be releasing on September 28 to PlayStation 4, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Xbox One for $14.99. The announcement of the new expansion and its trailer came during publisher Annapurna Interactive’s showcase on July 29. The company didn’t reveal too much about Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye as they are trying to keep it under wraps, but they have stated the storyline will “weave directly into the existing world and narrative of” Outer Wilds. This expansion will also be the first and only DLC of Outer Wilds, according to Mobius Digital Creative Director Alex Beachum.
The cryptic reveal trailer shows the game’s infamous spaceship and solar system as the sun enters into an eclipse. Players also get brief shots of something that looks like an underground location. With Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye, all we really know for sure is that the expansion will continue to build on previous themes from the original while featuring a newly developed narrative and locales. While not too much is known beyond this, many are hoping that this expansion will live up to the name and strength of its original.
The only sneak peeks we get about the storyline of Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye is from the official description of the game listed on the Steam store. According to this description, the storyline begins with a strange satellite photo that no one can quite explain. You will play as the newest recruit for the space program, Outer Wilds Ventures, as you try to find the answers to this mystery–with a constantly evolving solar system, there’s no telling what lurks in the dark, what will be uncovered, and what will remain a mystery.
