It looks like Respawn Entertainment is looking to move on from their first and original title. The company announced that the original Titanfall, which launched in 2014, will officially be discontinued on March 1, 2022. What this essentially means is that they have the title removed from all digital storefronts, which also includes any online subscription service such as Xbox Game Pass or EA’s Origin. Those who already own the title or regularly play it, you have nothing to fear. Respawn has stated that they have no plans to shut down the servers in the foreseeable future.
As you can see in the tweet above, Respawn doesn’t appear to take this decision lightly. They also state in the tweet that Titanfall is the “core to Respawn’s DNA and this incredible universe will continue.” They go on to state that the idea of Titanfall lives on in the sequel, Titanfall 2, the spin-off Apex Legends, and in “the future”. The last bit caught the attention of the fan base, but it’s also been made very clear that the company has no obvious intentions to make another entry in the franchise.
Since releasing Titanfall, has established themselves as a serious force in the video game industry. We’ve already mentioned both Titanfall 2 and the wildly popular Apex Legends, but they’ve also developed one of the greatest open-world titles in recent memory; Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The title was critically acclaimed and went on to become the fastest-selling digital launch in Star Wars franchise history. With so much new content and IPs in fairly short timeframe, it’s not very surprising to see the company start the process of removing their original title from the forefront. It also doesn’t help that the game has become riddled with hackers, which in turn caused players to hack Apex Legends in protest.
