In the May PlayStation showcase of last year it was announced that the fan favorite Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater would be getting a full on remake coming sometime this year. This was by far the biggest announcement of the showcase as many started speculating that Konami might be headed into their time for remaking their classic catalog. Seeing as its become an industry trend in the past couple years for studios to go back in the archives and select fan favorites to remake and remaster its no surprise that Konami wanted to hop on. With Resident Evil and Final Fantasy games being remade they have skyrocketed their popularity once more and it wouldn’t be a surprise if other studios begin doing the same thing. Well apparently Snake Eater isnt the only Metal Gear game getting the remake treatment as the original Metal Gear Solid game is getting a remake as well.
According to a report from Areajuego, a Spanish news source, claims that Konami is going to focus on remaking the original Metal Gear Solid mainly after the release of Snake Eater and that the project is already in pre-production. If the reports are true it would make sense as Konami released the Metal Gear Solid collection a couple months back, that including Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty. The experiences of those games are quite outdated for todays players so the remake rumor is more than likely. What’s confusing is why Konami is deciding to remake the games out of order.
The era of the remake continues as this year alone rumors of an Original God Of War trilogy being remade has been circling, The Silent Hill 2 remake is slated to come out sometime this year, and Resident Evil is surely going to release another remake sometime in the next year or so. This may not be the best trend in the industry at the moment but there is still an important reason for it. Many players just never had the chance to play those games and now they are being made again for the newer generations. It still important to ask studios for more creativity and push the industry forward.
