The God Of War series is considered to be one of the greatest in the industry’s history, with its newer releases garnering near-universal critical acclaim. The Norse saga, starting with 2018’s God Of War, was a bold new beginning for the franchise going from its hack and slash nature to a more concise and thought out combat system. Graphically as well the upgrade is phenomenal compared to the initial entries. Despite the success of the last two titles, fans are very much still in love with the series beginnings in Greece. Many have been wondering, especially since God Of War Ragnarok: Valhalla released, if it is possible that Santa Monica Studios may be working on a remastered version of the original games, with some even dreaming of complete remakes. In the Valhalla DLC we are shown enemies from the Greek saga but with brand new graphical upgrades, and are even shown a new updated model of Kratos from his time in Greece. Well it may not be too far off to assume there is at least something in the works, because according to Nick Baker there is a remaster of the original 3 mainline God Of War games in the works. Even more interesting is that it may be released as early as next year.
On the podcast that he Co-hosts Xboxera, Nick Baker began talking of rumors he had heard about a potential remaster/remake of the original 3 God Of War games. This is surprising because Nick Baker is much more of an Xbox insider but still a very reliable source nonetheless in the industry. He had the following to say.
I’m a person for a long time has bemoaned the direction God of War went somewhat, and have yearned for the hack n’ slash OG God of War games. I just love them so much. And when I heard this might be happening, I told a friend of mine who also loves the OG God of War games and they got very excited. And I heard we might be getting the OG God of War trilogy remastered on PlayStation. – Nick Baker Via Xboxera
He then goes on to mention that he is not sure if it is to be revealed in 2024 and released the same year or released in 2025. This news is both exciting and holds a bit of disappointment as the industry is very much relying on nostalgia these past couple of years and seems to be continuing down that path. On the other hand remakes and remasters are a really awesome addition for players who maybe never had the chance to play those games. Santa Monica Studios have made no sort of announcement but have teased that they have a lot of work to get done. The idea of playing the original God Of War titles with a fresh new look is extremely exciting though adding on to that the fact that theres a possibility that it might look like the current engine of God Of War games is truly mouthwatering stuff. Baker was also asked about any of the spin off games being included to which he replied that he only heard about 1-3.
