Opening Night Live kicks off Gamescom. This year, host Geoff Keighley tempered expectations by announcing that a lot of the showcase would be focused on games that have already been announced and not a lot of big surprises. That being said, here is a rundown of everything that was revealed during Opening Night Live 2023.
Starfield kicks things with a live-action trailer teasing some of the many places gamers will be able to explore. The game is set for launch in just a few short weeks.
Little Nightmares III has been announced. Developed by Supermassive Games, Little Nightmares III takes players back to a dark and unsettling world where terrifying creatures and deadly challenges await at every corner. The game follows the journey of Low and Alone, two friends looking for a way to escape The Nowhere – a whimsical & nightmarish world. The game is set to release in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
A new trailer for Black Myth: Wukong was released. The new trailer features a new look at the combat and some new enemies that players will face.
Killing Floor 3 was announced. The year is 2091, 70 years after the events in Killing Floor 2, and megacorp Horzine has produced the ultimate army: an obedient horde of bio-engineered monstrosities called Zeds. Now, the only thing standing between these infernal creations and the future of humanity is the rebel rogue group known as Nightfall. This intense first-person shooter puts players in the role of a Nightfall specialist, joining forces with up to five teammates as they battle through a war-ravaged, dystopian future, surviving unrelenting waves of Zeds, unlocking new skills, and building the ultimate arsenal.
Age of Empires IV is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass. The game features native inputs for controllers, a new tutorial to help console players learn the ropes, and more.
Director Zack Synder made an appearance and revealed the first full trailer at the upcoming Netflix film Rebel Moon. The movie will have two parts. Part 1: A Child of Fire will be released on December 22, 2023. Part 2: The Scargiver releases next year on April 19.
Zack Synder also officially announced that Rebel Moon will be getting a video game adaptation. The game is being developed by Super Evil Megacorp and will be a four-player co-op action game and is going to be exclusive to Netflix members.
Crimson Desert got a new gameplay trailer showcasing many of the mechanics players can look forward to messing around with.
A new trailer was released for Payday 3. The game is set to release on September 21 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage got a new trailer showcasing the full Arabic voiceover players can choose to play the game with immersing themselves even more into 9th century Baghdad.
Tekken 8 got a new trailer shown at Opening Night Live. The trailer revealed that the game is set to launch on January 26, 2024, shortly after the release date was leaked earlier today.
Sledgehammer Games made an appearance and revealed the first look at the first level for Call of Duty Modern Warfare III.
A new trailer was released for Nightingale. The game will be released into Early Access on February 22, 2024.
Granblue Fantasy Relink is a new Action-RPG from the world of Granblue Fantasy. The game will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in late 2023.
HoyoVerse made an appearance and showcased a new look at the upcoming Zenless Zone Zero. They also revealed that Honkai: Star Rail is set to release on PlayStation 5 tomorrow and showcased the first look at what’s next for Genshin Impact.
A new trailer was released for Lords of the Fallen, focusing on the parallel worlds players will travel between during the game. Lords of the Fallen is set to launch on October 13, 2023.
Sonic Superstars got a new gameplay trailer. The game launches on October 17, 2023. There was also an update for Sonic Frontiers. The Final Horizon update features a new story, new playable characters, and new challenges. The free update is coming to the game on September 28.
A new gameplay trailer was revealed for The First Descendant, an upcoming looter shooter.Players can register for the crossplay open beta that will take place from September 19 to September 25, 2023.
Under the Waves is a narrative-driven adventure game about the engulfing power of grief. Set in the depths of the North Sea in the techno-futuristic 1970s, professional diver Stan is struggling to overcome a life-changing loss and embrace a new future. The game is set to launch next week on August 29.
A new look was provided for Fort Solis. The game is available now for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
Expeditions: A Mudrunner game was announced. The game launches in 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
A new trailer was released for The Crew Motorfest. Players can try the full game for 5 hours with a free trial that’s set for September 14-17.
CD Projekt Red showcased the first official look at many of the gameplay changes they made for Cyberpunk 2077 with its DLC Phantom Liberty. CD Projekt Red also confirmed that many of the changes will be coming to the base game.
Stormgate got a new trailer revealing one of the game’s factions.
Last Epoch revealed the Runemaster as a new class for the game.
Marvel Snap is now on PC.
A new gameplay trailer was released for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The game launches at the end of the week on August 25, 2023.
Warhaven got a new trailer. The game is set to launch on September 20, 2023.
Mortal Kombat 1 got a new trailer focusing on the Rulers of Outworld. The trailer showcased and revealed General Shao, Sindel, Shujinko, and Motaro joining the roster.
ARA: History Untold got a new trailer. The game delivers an evolution in turn-based historical grand strategy with your choices defining the world you create, your experience, and your legacy. The game is coming in 2024.
Blizzard revealed the first look at the next season of Diablo IV, Season of Blood. Vampires have their sights set on Sanctuary with a sinister plot surrounded in mystery. Players will have to learn to fight against the newly turned army of Vampires with Vampric powers and with the help of Erys, a vampire hunter who stalks these blood leeches throughout Sanctuary, voiced by Actress and Producer Gemma Chan.
Dustborn is a narrative action-adventure game set in an alternate version of America. The game will launch in early 2024.
Thank Goodness You’re Here is a comedy slapformer which unfolds over time as the player explores a bizarre Northen English town called Barnsworth after arriving early for a big meeting with the mayor. As the player explores and leaves their mark and complete odd jobs, new areas open up with stranger and stranger tasks becoming available, as the clock ticks towards the big meeting. The game launches in 2024 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
A new trailer was released for Alan Wake II. The new trailer and footage focuses on Alan Wake himself and focuses on The Dark Place, the nightmarish dimension that he has been trapped in for 13 years following the events of the first game.
