One Year Of Rocket League

Today marks the one year anniversary of Rocket League. With this anniversary, the developers released details on the impressive milestones that this game has accomplished. For instance, “the game has attracted more than 18 million player total, who have taken part in 545 million matches. 6.2 million copies of the game have been sold, with 5.5 million DLC packs to go along with it. PS4 remains the game’s top platform–perhaps thanks in part to it launching in July 2015 as free PlayStation Plus game–with Xbox One and PC both tied. An average of 1.1 million players still play every day.” Out of the 1.1 million players, 40% of them are on the PlayStation 4 which is a rather large active group after a year since most online games tend to die out after around the year period.

Psyonix tried to figure out a plan for the future of the game. They decided the best way would be to just do what the public wanted them to do and to continue what they do best. Which lead them to the decision to add more maps, game modes, DLC’s, and to experiment more so that Rocket League can have a bigger presence in competitive gaming. So we can expect there to be many new and great things in these next 52 weeks to keep us coming back to play it.

Just recently, Rocket League was given a physical copy along with major update that included a bunch of new content. In the future, we could expect PS4 players and Xbox One players playing against each other so long as Sony and Microsoft come to an agreement on their multiplayer compatibility. But while we wait Psyonix will continue to work on making the cross compatibility happen. And it is safe to say that one year from today this game will still be talked about.
