The Pro Kompetition League happened over this weekend, a big showcase of some of the best Mortal Kombat players in the world, and as with most major fighting game events sponsored by the very company that created the game, there are always some surprises in story. In this case, it’s the trailer for the T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1, featuring Robert Patrick retaining his role as the menacing liquid robot!
Yeah, Mortal Kombat definitely isn’t beating the allegations that it’s a franchise about action figures your dad owned killing each other, but hey now you can have the T-1000 beat up Conan the Barbarian on the big screen. Robert Patrick is an interesting addition too, as he had just finished playing the role of White Dragon in DC’s Peacemaker, the titular character also being in Mortal Kombat 1.
Now, this is just a teaser trailer, but all the iconic T-1000 goodies are here: arm blades, liquid form, the big truck he tries to hit people with. But, being just a teaser we don’t have too much of a preview of how he’ll play, nor do we have an indication of who the Kameo that will accompany him into Mortal Kombat 1 will be.
Now while I’m sure there are those out there excited for the T-1000, it bares saying that once he’s released it’s been rumored that that’s it for Mortal Kombat 1. The end of the line for the game, so to speak, after the poor critical and financial results of Mortal Kombat: Khaos Reigns. Whether or not that rumor is true remains to be seen, but the reception of Mortal Kombat 1, as well as WB Games in general, has been less than positive in recent months. So this very well could be the end of the road for the Mortal Kombat series for quite some time.
