The new update to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack was announced through this trailer on the Nintendo of America channel.
The trailer previews the old retro game with new graphics from when the game originally launched on November 25th, 1996. Killer Instinct Gold is a fighting game featuring 10 killer fighters as well as multiple game modes for players to experience– it is quite similar to Street Fighter with its playstyle and one-on-one combat.
There are game modes such as regular Arcade Mode where players can combat other fighters, Team Mode where players can pick a team and combat against their friend’s team. There is also a Tournament Mode where players can face off against each other and the mode holds up to eight players. Apart from the game modes, there is also a Training mode where players can practice using one of the ten fighters to sharpen their techniques and create new combos to use in combat, and there are thousands of techniques for players to create using only three punches and three kicks.
Nintendo have also improved the graphics of the game compared to when it was originally released in 1996. The original 2D settings were upgraded with fully 3D environments that moves along with the camera in a more realistic way, along with adding some depth to the game. Developers have updated animation at 60 frames per second.
