Odencat’s Mousebusters will launch on June 11 for PC via Steam, as announced in a new release date trailer. The game mixes point-and-click exploration, puzzle-solving, and shoot ’em up-style ghost battles, with players investigating an apartment building from the perspective of a mouse before using a ray gun to confront the spirits hiding inside. Mousebusters is also planned for Nintendo Switch, though a separate release date for that version has not been announced. A free demo currently available ahead of launch.
Mousebusters begins after the protagonist moves into a new apartment and wakes up transformed into a mouse. The player then meets Chief, another mouse who explains that the curse can only be broken by clearing the building of the ghosts haunting its residents. Each apartment works as its own investigation space, with the player searching through rooms from a mouse’s perspective while trying not to be noticed. The ghosts are tied to the residents’ negative emotions and insecurities, so progression depends on finding what is troubling each tenant before the spirit can be confronted. Chief remains in contact during missions, offering direction from headquarters while the player searches for clues, solves environmental puzzles, and pieces together what is happening inside the building. As the story continues, the game moves beyond individual hauntings and begins moving towards a larger mystery involving the apartment complex and Chief’s own knowledge of the curse. Once a ghost is exposed, Mousebusters shifts into shooting-based encounters. Players use a ray gun to dodge incoming projectiles, target weak points, and break through the ghost’s defenses.
Odencat released an updated demo in February centered on Room 102, the apartment of an overworked programmer. The demo has players sneak through the room, gather clues to access the resident’s computer after he falls asleep, and fight a ghost that appears through his PC setup. The demo is listed at roughly 15 to 20 minutes and includes difficulty options.
Mousebusters originally released on iOS and Android before being expanded for Steam and Nintendo Switch. Odencat’s previous titles include Bear’s Restaurant, Fishing Paradiso, Snowman Story, and Meg’s Monster, with the studio’s titles often pairing cute pixel art with stories built around death, regret, and supernatural spaces.
Mousebusters is available to wishlist now on Steam.
