The latest chapter of Abe’s Oddysee is set to release on Steam on June 21. Originally released on PlayStation and Xbox in 2021, Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition can now take its rightful place on PCs alongside the rest of the Oddworld series. The Steam version will include the Toby’s Escape DLC, a set of bonus levels originally exclusive to PlayStation and the Epic Games store.
Oddworld: Soulstorm is the sequel to Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, and a reimagining of the 1998 PlayStation 1/PC title Oddworld: Exoddus. The game is centered around Abe, a member of an enslaved race of telepathic aliens called Mudokons. After freeing himself and his brethren from forced labor at Rupture Farms, Abe is now tasked with rescuing more of his kind from SoulStorm Brewery and stopping its production of SoulStorm brew, a drink made from the bones of the Mudokons’ ancestors.
Soulstorm follows the groundwork laid by New ‘n’ Tasty as a 2.5D action-puzzle platformer, in which Abe must guide his kind to safety while avoiding deadly industrial machinery, alarms, traps, and armed guards. Abe must avoid these threats with stealth, his own traps, and his telepathic ability to possess other creatures. Unlike the previous game, however, Abe can now collect items to craft into various weapons that can be used against enemies, such as a smoke bombs for emergency cover or rubber balls that can knock enemies out.
To promote the impending release, developer Oddworld Inhabitants have embarked on the aptly titled Steam Wishlist Campaign, which encourages fans to visit the game’s Steam page and add it to their wishlist. When the number of Steam users who have the game wishlisted reaches certain milestones, exclusive content will be available to download on oddworld.com for anyone who has purchased the game, even if they did not do so with Steam.
