In celebration of the 8th anniversary for the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series, Square Enix announced OCTOPATH TRAVELER and OCTOPATH TRAVELER II will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch 2. The highly renowned JRPG games are available for pre-order now and can be bought physically or digitally. According to the developers, the digital version will be available as a bundle only for the Switch 2.
The series is having a sale currently for Switch users, which will end July 16, 2026. The digital copy of OCTOPATH TRAVELER is on sale for 70% off, while the second game in the series is on sale for 60% off. OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is also on sale for 35% off.
OCTOPATH TRAVELER contains eight different characters for players to choose from. Each containing their own adventures, story plots, and side quests within the stunning world of Orsterra. Players can explore this enchanting landscape, which includes eight different regions befitting their character. The regions feature a variety of environments from lush forests to snowy cathedrals. Gameplay features a turn-based combat system with each character designed with their own unique abilities, skills, and talents.
In OCTOPATH TRAVELER II, players are taken to Solistia, where a vast sea separates the western and eastern continents. Once again, players have a selection of eight unique characters to choose from, each having their own origins, motives, and abilities. It contains familiar mechanics from the first game, such as the Break and Boost system featured in the game’s combat.
Players also still have the freedom to grow their character’s jobs and skills. New systems include a day/night cycle toggle, traveler’s tales (where two travelers walk the same path), unique latent powers, and new ways to travel by water. It is a world independent from the original title, yet still enticing to explore.
Both games feature stunning retro 2D graphics in a 3D world, an iconic style that the series is renowned for. Both games will release for the Switch 2 on October 1st, 2026. For players interested in the game now, it is also available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Switch, Xbox, PS4, and PS5.
